Taskbar Settings
You can access the Taskbar Settings by right clicking anywhere on the Taskbar and choosing it from the menu which appears.

Taskbar corner Icons |
Choose which icons appear in the corner of your taskbar e.g. Pen menu and Touch keyboard

Choose which additional icons you wish to show in the corner (A), the rest will appear in the overflow (B)

Notifications
New notifications pop-up down the bottom right hand corner, they are shown here for 5 seconds before disappearing.

The number of unread notifications is indicated as shown below.

When you click these notifications a panel will be shown with more details of any current notifications.

Click the X to close the current notification.
You can click the . . . icon to show the below context menu where you can choose to turn of all notifications for specific event / app, make future alerts high priority, or open the main notifications page in Settings to make further changes.
Touch Control
Below are for touch screen enabled devices and can also be used on some laptops with touchpads which support gestures:-
