Place a blank CD or DVD in your drive
You will then see a notification appear down the bottom right hand corner asking you to "Select what happens with blank CDs (or DVDs)"
Click on this notification
N.B. If you don't see the notification then open File Explorer and then double click on the CD/DVD drive to proceed

You will then see the following window asking how you want to use this CD/DVD
Enter a title for the disc, or leave it at the default setting which will be today's date
For backup purposes you are best to choose With a CD/DVD player - as the other option would allow you to delete files from the CD/DVD which means you could accidentally delete backed-up files
Click Next to continue |

File Explorer will then open showing you the CD/DVD drive
You can add files/folders by dragging them to this window (as shown below) |

or you can add items by right mouse clicking on a file(s) or folder(s) and choosing Send to > DVD RW Drive
N.B. For Windows 11 you need to select Show more options from the first menu before you can select Send to > DVD RW Drive |

Once you have finished adding all the files/folders you wish to write to CD/DVD - click on Finish burning on the toolbar (or for Windows 11 click on the three dots ... and then click on Finish burning) |

Your will then see the following screen - where you can enter a title for your CD/DVD - change recording speed (doesn't usually need changing from the default) and then click Next to continue |

You will then see the progress of the selection files / folders being burnt to CD/DVD |

|
When the disk is complete it will automatically eject and you will see the following screen - where you can choose to burn the files to another CD/DVD or click Finish to close the wizard |
