In Windows 10 the start menu has returned!! - it is still a bit different than in previous versions of Windows but will certainly be a vast improvement on Windows 8 for users that missed it

The new notifications area replaces the charms bar in Windows 8, and is the central location for all messages/notifications such as new email alerts, updates available, and shortcuts to various settings

Windows 10 will come with a personal digital assistant called Cortana (those of you with Windows 8 phones may already have used this feature, and for iPhone users it is a bit like Siri), basically you can speak/type questions and Cortana will find answers, it will also fully integrate with your apps so it can warn of upcoming diary appointments and even warn that you need to leave early due to traffic/accidents etc

The Control Panel from previous versions of Windows has been replaced with a new settings screen

This is a new feature designed for those that have tablets with removable keyboards or one of the hybrid/convertible devices that can switch between being used as a laptop or as a tablet
Basically Windows will automatically switch between desktop mode and tablet mode when a keyboard is connected/disconnected - this will change the start menu and apps to be full screen, as well as changing menus and icons to be larger and more touch friendly
It will also make working with multiple devices more seamless - for example if you were reading a document on your Windows 10 desktop and then had to go out it can sync the document (and remember what page you are on) to your Windows 10 phone/tablet so you can continue reading later whilst out
|
Windows 10 will come with a new internet browser to accompany Internet Explorer - this will be a lot quicker and work better with modern websites - it will also be less cluttered (so you can see more of the website without toolbars/icons etc getting in the way)

Universal Apps are new apps that are designed to run on all devices that can run Windows 10 i.e. desktop, laptop, tablet, phone and Xbox - so that the user experience is the same across all devices
These will include the new Universal Apps for Office 2016 which will give you Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote for free - and the new Windows 10 Mail app
