If you have a password set on your computer, then the first screen you will see when you power on your computer is the lock screen

 

This screen shows a chosen background picture (or slideshow of pictures) along with the date/time, status of your internet/network connection, battery level (if using a laptop/tablet) and can also include other notifications such as calendar alerts, emails, skype calls (which you can answer from the lock screen) and alarms - all these options can be configured in the Personalization > Lock Screen section of Settings

To access your computer click anywhere on the screen, press a key, or swipe upwards if using a tablet and you will then be presented with the log-in screen (show below), where you can enter your password to access your computer, if you have multiple users setup on the same computer then you will see icons for each user, click on the relevant user and then enter password to login

 

If you have a device with a camera then you can also swipe downwards on the lock screen to use it without having to log-in first

Keyboard Language

If you have multiple languages configured on your computer then you can click this icon to change the keyboard language

Connect to Internet

This icon indicates if you are connected to the internet and you can click on it to connect to a wireless network

Ease of access

Use this icon to access Windows accessibility settings such as narrator (reads all text on screen for visually impaired users), magnifier (enlarges areas of the screen for visually impaired users), on-screen keyboard (for tablet users or if keyboard not working) and various other settings to change how items are displayed on screen and how the keyboard works

Shut down

This icon can be used to Shut down or Restart your computer
