By default Focused Inbox is enabled which separates your inbox into two tabs - Focused and Other.  Your most important email messages are shown under Focused whilst other emails such as marketing etc is kept out of the way under Other.

 

 

You can turn off / on the Focused Inbox view by clicking View Settings on the View ribbon, and changing the settings under Email > Layout.
