This FAQ is here to help you if you ever need to disconnect your computer to bring it to me for repair.
Disconnection
|
Laptop / Tablet
These are very simple as normally the only connection you would have directly plugged in would be the power cable.
Very occasionally you could have a device such as a printer connected with a USB cable - if so make a note of which port it was connected to.
I will need:-
•The laptop/tablet
•The power cable
•A note of any password / passcode to login to the computer (if it has one)
Desktop / All-in-One
In most cases you would have several cables connected to the back of a desktop or all-in-one computer.
•Power cable
•Keyboard and mouse cable - these will usually be connected with a USB cable unless you have a wireless keyboard and/or mouse which if so then you will have a small adapter (often referred to as a dongle) plugged into a USB socket, this can be left connected
•Ethernet / Network cable - unless the computer is wireless then this cable links the computer to your broadband router
•Audio cable - if you have speakers connected to your computer
•Peripherals such as printer / scanner - these will usually be connected with a USB cable unless they are wireless
I will need:-
•The computer
•The power cable only if it DOES NOT use a standard UK power lead (often referred to as a kettle lead) as per image below
•A note of any password / passcode to login to the computer (if it has one)
Reconnection
Hopefully as suggested above you took a photo of the back of your computer before removing any cables - if so then you can use this as a guide as to what cable goes where.
If not then use the information on this page to identify cables / connections.
Any problems at all when reconnecting your computer please contact me.
