Most software on your computer gets updated regularly and you often get various prompts asking if you wish to update this, that or the other
I am often asked which ones should I install - below I have listed common update message you will see for the programs which it is always good to keep up-to-date, for performance and security reasons
Java (jucheck.exe)
When an update for Java is available you will see the following message and icon appear in the taskbar - click the prompt or icon to install the update
During installation make sure you choose the Do not update browser settings option as highlighted in red below - if not your internet homepage will be changed to Yahoo
Windows Updates
When new updates are available for Windows, or other installed Microsoft products you may see the following message and icon appear in the taskbar - click the prompt or icon to launch Windows Update
In most cases all Windows Updates are automatically installed in the background and you will only see this prompt to advise you that you need to restart your computer to complete the update procedure
Adobe Reader
When an update for Adobe Reader is available you will see the following message and icon appear in the taskbar - click the prompt or icon to install the update
Adobe Flash Player
When an update is available for Adobe Flash Player this prompt will appear - click Install to proceed with the update installation
Watch out for this update message shown below - it is a fake message and clicking OK or trying to close it will take you to a web page offering a fake update (which contains malware) - DO NOT click Install Later or Install Now, but close the web page by clicking the X in the top right hand corner
