Windows 8 has two new options (Refresh your PC and Reset your PC) to help you to try and repair your computer if you have serious problems

N.B. Bear in mind that both of these options are final, and will remove all installed software
(and for one option also your data)

 

To access these options open the Charms Bar, click Settings > Change PC Settings > Update and recovery > Recovery section

If you choose the "Refresh your PC" option then after it is complete a file will be placed on your desktop titled "Removed Applications", if you double click on this file it will show you a list of what programs were removed from your computer during the refresh, so you know what needs reinstalling (example below)
