With Windows 11 the Chat facility from Microsoft Teams has been integrated into the Taskbar and provides a faster way to connect to the people you care about.

 

Accessing Chat

 

You can access Chat by clicking the icon on the Taskbar.

How to use Chat

 

When first launched you will see either of the two screens shown.

 

1) Click Get Started to proceed.

You will then be asked to choose which Microsoft account you wish to use to login to Teams.

2) If you use Outlook.com or Skype then choose if you wish to sync your contacts, and then click Let's go.

You will then see one of the screens below.

Activity

This shows your Activity Feed which will show any mentions (when someone refers to you in a chat with @name), reactions and notifications

Chat

This is the main chat window when any chats will appear and where you can respond to any messages

Calendar

Displays monthly calendar where you can see any existing meetings or schedule new meetings

Settings

Access to Settings and Help

Profile

Shows the currently logged in profile and you can set availability (e.g. away, offline, busy) and set up a status message

Start a chat

Click here to start a chat - you can then enter email address or mobile number of the person you wish to chat with

Meet now

Click to setup a meeting where you can choose a name for the meeting, start the meeting and get a link to share with other recipients

Start a group

Create a group of friends / family / work colleagues to chat with

Get the mobile app

Takes you to the Microsoft website where you can see details on the app for Android and iPhone and send a link to your phone to download it

Open Microsoft Teams

This opens the main Microsoft Teams interface as per above image

 

 

When you receive a new chat message you will see a notification down the bottom right corner of your screen, from here you can send a quick reply or click on the message to open the main chat window.

From these windows you can reply to messages, change text formatting, send Emoji or Giphy's, start video or audio calls and add more people to the chat.
